On 17th February, Sarah Ford travelled to London to formally receive her Chartered Practitioner certification in Environmental Cleaning — the highest professional recognition available within the cleaning and facilities management industry.
The award was presented during the Annual Luncheon of the Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners at Armourers’ Hall — a setting steeped in tradition and dedicated to promoting standards and professionalism within the sector.
For those outside the industry, “Chartered Practitioner” may not immediately resonate. Within environmental cleaning, however, it represents the pinnacle of professional recognition and accountability.

What Does Chartered Practitioner Status Involve?
Becoming Chartered is a rigorous process.
It requires a detailed written submission evidencing professional experience, measurable impact and leadership across the industry, followed by a formal peer interview. Candidates must demonstrate competence across five core pillars:
- General Knowledge
- Practical Skills
- Communication
- Leadership
- Professional Commitment
It is not simply about time served or job title — it is about demonstrating how standards are upheld, how services are designed and delivered, and how long-term improvements are embedded sustainably and ethically.
A Commitment to Training and Standards
Sarah is Top Mops Limited’s Head of Training and Standards and is also a BICSc Accredited Trainer and Licensed Assessor.
Her work within the business focuses on structured training pathways, consistent auditing processes, and ensuring that every operative is equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required to deliver safe, effective and compliant services.
This Chartered recognition reflects years of work embedding professional frameworks into the heart of the business — ensuring that standards are not just written down, but actively lived and delivered across every contract.

Raising Standards Across the Industry
